The Thomas Paine Caucus
Mission Statement
The Thomas Paine Caucus is seeking to establish the libertarian center as a realistic alternative to the liberal and conservative extremes. As a result of the United States' recent liberal political history the conservative critique of "big government" has become a majority representation within the Libertarian Party. We in the Thomas Paine Caucus find the liberal critique of "big business" to have as much validity as the conservative critique. As do we find the dicipline of human ecology to give guidance to the political philosophy of libertarianism
Therefore to build the strength of the Libertarian Party into a winning coalition to govern from the center with principle, will require not only using the conservative critique of "big government," it will require bringing into the party the liberal critique of "big business" and the balance of these two critiques will be guided by the discipline of human ecology.
To that end, the Thomas Paine Caucus will be outreaching to the liberal left with libertarian positions that address concerns of the liberal left and that with the openness of our debate we hope to encourage their support or participation in the Libertarian Party.
The out reach to the liberal left will need to emphasize the Libertarian Party's positions on corporate responsibility, limited liability, and subsidy, on defending our country while having peaceful discourse with other nations, the civil rights of consenting adults in various activities, labor laws that have a negative effect on workers and their rights, and laws that have a negative effect on the environment and ecology of localities, regions, nations, and the world.
